Tens of Thousands Protest Site of Auto Plant in India

SINGUR, India (Agence France-Presse)  About 40,000 protesters on Sunday surrounded an Indian factory ready to produce the world's cheapest car, saying that land for the site had forcibly been taken from local farmers, the police said. Demonstrators blocked main roads near the Tata Motors plant at Singur, northwest of Calcutta, the state capital, as riot police officers protected the premises, the authorities said.
